This statue of Perseus (situated in the ground of Eton College), had developed corrosion products and layers of atmospheric dirt/black sulfation after being un-protected in the outdoor environment. In steam cleaning the loose corrosion products from the surface, remnants of the substrate original patina were found in place. The existing patina was selectively treated with weak applications of cold patina chemicals to uniform the surface, then the sculpture was cleaned of all contaminants and hot waxed.
